Florida is known for many aspects of its natural environment, from sandy beaches to expansive swamps. In its position jutting out from the base of the United States, the state is also a prime target for Atlantic hurricanes, many of which have shaped the landscape, laws, and memories of Floridians.

This online exhibit was initially inspired by the "Tampa Bay's Hurricane History" exhibit created by a collaboration between Ian Sears (NOAA Meteorolosit/Flight Director), Dr. Jennifer Collins (USF School of Geosciences), and Dr. Charlie Paxton (National Weather Service) located, for years, at the exit door of the USF Tampa Library.
