Canoe
Among Florida’s native population, there was no better mode of transport than the reliable, shallow-running dugout canoe. Using poles to navigate Florida’s shallow rivers, swamps, and glades, Florida’s Indians (and the relative newcomers known as the Seminole and Miccosukee tribes) also used small sails when navigating larger waterways. Their cunning use of canoes to maneuver and hide made the Seminoles especially elusive enemies during the Seminole Wars.
