Karst
Geologists at the University of South Florida have taken an interest in karst formations for some time. Such formations are carved out of Florida's soil and rock by carbonic acid in water, dissolving and eroding carbonate rock, such as limestone, over time. The study of karst can give scientists insight into the aquifer and climate change, among other things. Florida's aquifer is contained almost entirely in karst formations. The USF Tampa Lbrary hosts the Karst Information Portal and created a short film entitled What is Karst? Both are available through links from this page.
