Description

He arrived in New York in 1913. By 1918 Katsaros was so popular that RCA Victor Records signed him to a recording contract, and he became the first Greek singer/composer to record on a 78-rpm disc. Contracts with Columbia and Decca followed, and many of his compositions became favorites in Greece and diaspora communities. People identified with his songs about difficult times, immigrant life in unfamiliar surroundings, the comfort of family and friends, and the joy of hopes fulfilled.  For more than 80 years, his strong voice and unique style were heard in Greek venues throughout the world. He received a Florida Folk Heritage Award in 1990.
