Family and friends enjoy the evening breezes on the porch in August 1958. The woman on the left with a child on her lap is Sophie Pavlos Tsongranis, the wife of Father George Tsongranis. On the right, Sylvia Billiris sits behind the man at right front, and standing behind her is Nellie Pavlos, the sister of Sophie. Before air conditioning became wide-spread in Florida during the 1960s, people frequently gathered on their porches to enjoy companionship and the relative coolness of the evening. Most of the houses in the Greektown area were built with front porches that facilitated this kind of social gathering.
