Title
The Phil Demas Band
Subject
Tarpon Springs, Greek community, culture and leisure
Description
The Phil Demas Band includes Ted Tsangarinos on keyboard, Phil Demas on drums, Andy Lalino on electric bass (third from left), and Spiro Skordilis on bouzouki. The Phil Demas band frequently played Greek popular music at community events in the late 1970s to the 1990s. The photo was taken at St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg.
Skordilis had been a popular musician and composer in Greece before he came to the U.S., where he eventually settled in Tarpon Springs. The Greek community has always maintained regional, religious, and popular musical traditions performed by individuals and groups in homes, church, clubs, and social organizations.
