John B. Ramil Biography
John B. Ramil is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of TECO Energy. He is intimately involved in the implementation of corporate strategies and overseeing TECO Energy's operations including four companies: Tampa Electric, Peoples Gas, TECO Coal, and New Mexico Gas. A lifelong resident of Tampa, Ramil graduated from Tampa Catholic High School in 1973. Ramil joined Tampa Electric in 1976 as a cooperative education student while attending the University of South Florida (USF), where he received his bachelor’s and master’s of science degrees in Engineering in 1978 and 2000, respectively. In 1978, Ramil started working full-time for TECO Energy in their environmental department. Ramil quickly ascended the corporate ladder and has held several leadership positions within TECO, including Vice President-Finance and Chief Financial Officer, President of Tampa Electric Company, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of TECO Energy Inc., and Executive Vice President of Tampa Electric Company. In 2008, Ramil was named to the company's Board of Directors.
Ramil also has an extensive history of organizational and community leadership. In 2001, Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed him to the charter Board of Trustees at USF. At USF, Ramil has served as a director on the USF Foundation Board, the USF Alumni Board, the USF Engineering College Advisory Board, and the Gus Stavros Center for Free Enterprise Education Advocacy Board. He has also served on the boards of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, the Edison Electric Institute, the Moffitt Cancer Center Institute, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and is a past chair of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, the American Heart Association-Tampa Bay Heart Walk, InRoads Tampa Bay, the Southeastern Electric Exchange, and the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group.
