October 1, 1942 to January 30, 1943

On October 1, 1942, 200 young people and I were taken to a sugar factory, where we unloaded wagons. Teams of two were required to unload 30 tons of sugar beets each day. The cold temperature made things even worse. This work lasted until January 29, 1943. Tired and exhausted we returned to the Ghetto on January 30.

The next day, we received new assignments. There was no such thing as rest. It was either work or die. During this period, on October 30, a Saturday morning, 200 men from our group were shot. They consisted of 40 young men, and 160 elderly and sick.
