Hughes and William Howard Taft. Walking into the room is James M. Cox. All were presidential runners-up in recent elections. Since Election Day in 1920 was six days before this cartoon was published, the Cox-Roosevelt ticket had just been defeated by Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge.
