Alice "Lisl" Schick was born in Austria in 1927 and lived with her family in Vienna until 1939, when she and her brother left on the Kindertransport. They went to Great Britain and stayed in England and Wales until the war ended. Their father, a banker, was also able to come to England and was in contact with them, while their mother went to New York in 1940 and stayed with some relatives. Lisl's grandparents and the rest of her family all died in the Holocaust. The family was reunited in New York in 1944, where Lisl met her husband. They moved to Clearwater in 1960 and were one of the few Jewish families in the area. Lisl became involved in Hadassah, beginning with the local chapter and eventually becoming one of the organization's national vice presidents.
