Description

Cotton Club as it stands today, Gainesville Florida. Sarah McKnight bought the old Perry Theater and opened the Cotton Club from 1950- 1952. It showcased performers such as B.B. King, Bo Diddley, James Brown, and Brook Benton. The building then become a dance club, called the Blue Note from 1957 to 1959, and then a storage warehouse for the Babcock Furniture Company until 1970. In 1995 the Mt. Olive A.M.E. on SE 8th Avenue purchased the property with a vision of restoring the Cotton Club.
