Description

Anastasios "Taso" Karistinos was a champion diver in his home island of Euboea. In 1974 he started diving in Tarpon Springs and one of his mentors was the legendary "John the Greek" Maillis. Built by George Saroukos, his boat, the Anastasi, is the only active Greek-style boat today. Sometimes working with his son Anestis, Karistinos dives up to 10 hours daily on the 3 to 4 week trips. Considered the most traditional and one of the most skilled of today's divers/captains, he received a 2010 Florida Folk Heritage Award.
