Cheers and Jeers
With the help of the cheerleading squad, the USF president has traditionally lifted spirits and kicked off the festivities in a cake-cutting ceremony. Healthy athletic competition has always been at the center of USF’s Homecoming festivities. Over the years, USF has stoked rivalries with University of Tampa, University of Florida, and the University of Central Florida, among others. USF’s cheerleading squad has always been at the forefront, whipping up school spirit and engaging the audience. Our lovable mascot “Rocky the Bull” once took these rivalries a little too seriously when USF President John Lott Brown asked the student in the bull suit to tone down his act. Rocky has since reeled in his ribald enthusiasm during athletic events. In 1999, the Herd of Thunder Marching Band began to swagger on the gridiron.
