The ROTC program was not created until 1974; John Allen had previously stated that neither he nor the students wanted an ROTC program. The ROTC grew from 29 students to 146 in just two years and in 1979 and 1980, the USF program was named the top in the nation. The Air Force program was added in 1981 and the Naval program was added to the curriculum in 2002.  Today, our ROTC program is part of the only Joint Military Science Leadership Center in the nation. The Joint Military Science Leadership Center represents a unique, national leadership development model and a strong Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) tradition with the unique features of a Leadership Lecture Series and a Leadership Scholar-in-Residence Program. The Joint Military Science Leadership Center focuses on the nature and meaning of effective leadership in a changing environment through high quality classroom delivery, structured research, and community-based experiences.
