East Timor Survivor

Constâncio Pinto was a leader of the East Timorese underground, surviving imprisonment and torture by the Indonesian army. Throughout the 1990s he campaigned worldwide for support for his people, participating in numerous international conferences. In 2009 he became East Timor's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States. Pinto is the author of East Timor's Unfinished Struggle, a memoir of his experiences in the resistance, and has written many articles about East Timor for the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and other major newspapers.
